POSITION SUMMARY

As the Safety Officer you will direct and support the on-going development of our Health and Safety Program for the primary purposes of keeping our employees safe and properly informed. The Safety Officer will work closely with all managers and employees to reduce risks and injuries; monitor and evaluate safe work conditions and practices; actively promote a safety-first working culture.

This position is safety sensitive and requires a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.

JOB DUTIES

  • Provide Health & Safety leadership, mentorship and guidance for site operations and to management.
  • Ensure sites comply with company safety/environmental policies and relevant safety/environmental legislation and regulations.
  • Enforce company safety policy and work procedures.
  • Respond to issues relating to health, safety, environment, emergency response, performance metrics and safety management systems for site operations.
  • Cooperate with Site Supervisor to complete all necessary investigations and ensure that no one can be exposed to unsafe conditions or unsafe activities.
  • Conduct daily health & safety inspections and maintain records.
  • Carry out safety corrective actions as a result of site inspections, investigations or compliance requirements.
  • Attends participate and/or facilitate safety meetings.
  • Schedule and organize safety training and orientations, as required.
  • Train and educate employees in company safe work practices and procedures.
  • Review subcontractor’s safety programs and provide ongoing assistance to subcontractors as required.
  • Develop site specific safety orientations and programs.
  • Administer first aid services to all personnel on the work site, as necessary.
  • Carryout other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Occupational First Aid Level 1-3
  • Related Post-Secondary Health & Safety Degrees, Diplomas or Certifications are an asset
  • Minimum 3 years of civil construction, forestry or mining safety experience
  • Experience in HCSS Safety an asset, but not a requirement
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
